Assessment and Evaluation  Policy 

 

Purposes

To provide guidance on:

·          effective assessment

·         the assessment and recording which is carried out in the school.

·         who has responsibility for undertaking assessment.

·         ways in which assessment results can best be used to improve students' learning.

·         the quality of learning programmes in the school

Guidelines.

·         The School Primary Record Cards E19/16 A,B,C  have been replaced with St Patrick's own Record system. The white card E19/22A which notes health and welfare and attendance will be retained.

·         This system will comprise :

1) Class assessments / evaluations.

2) An individual pupil profile starting at New Entrants and finishing at Year 6

3) There is an individual record card, which will double as a biannual report to parents.

4) Children’s individual sample books.

·         Assessment and evaluation is the responsibility of the class teacher.

·         Assessment tasks are focused on Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes.

·         Assessment methods could include; peer assessment, self assessment, observation, oral questions, writing starters, directed test items, student self-assessment, conferences, running records, written tests, class presentations, projects, portfolios, observation of class discussion, take home or open book tests, homework, journals, group work, papers or written arguments, performance tests, standards based tests, success of students at the next level, questionnaires. ·         The following standardized tests are used in this school;

1)  JOST(Junior Oral Screening Test)

2) Concepts about Print.

3) Six year net

4) PM / Probe5) P.A.T.

6) Burt word test

7) Numpa

8) Asttle

·         Records of standardized tests will be kept on the schools administrative computer. Class teachers will be given an updated list as required.

·         P.A.T. from Y3 – Y6 will be completed before the end of March.

·         Running records will be taken at least 3 times a year, before the end of March, before the end of July, and before the end of November.

·         Reports to parents will include an early year interview, a mid-year interview and written reports at mid-year and December. Interviews can be requested by parents or teachers at other times as required.

·         At the end of the year assessment information will be summarized into curriculum levels and stored on the administration computer for distribution to the next years teacher.
