Education and Learning Outside the Classroom ( ELOTC) Policy

 

Purpose

·      To enrich classroom learning by providing direct experiences.

·      To introduce children to the challenges and dangers of the environment and the skills for coping with them.

·      To provide opportunities for the community to participate in the education of our pupils.

·      To help in the social development of children and their interaction with others.

·      To encourage pupils to develop a respect for the environment.

 

Guidelines

A planned programme taking into account:

·      environmental facilities and activities available.

·      needs of pupils

·      skills and experience of staff

·      financial resources

·      safety procedures NB School Risk management form must be completed.

 

Programmes must:

·      have specific activities related to educational objectives.

·      present appropriate outdoor activities.

·      be adequately supervised.

·      have appropriate approval.

 

Teachers need to:

·      show sound leadership and management skills.

·      Show informed, good judgement when dealing with emergencies.

·      Complete  teacher and volunteer form for those assisting in trip/camp.

 

Annual Events:

·      Year 6 camp

Review

This policy will be reviewed as specified in the 3 year review cycle.
