SMOKING IN THE WORKPLACE POLICY

 

 

 

 

The St Patrick’s school policy under the Smoke Free Environments Act 1990 which was amended on  3rd December 2003 by.  The "Smokefree Environments Act  2003". Act requires that the whole school must be a smoke free area. 

 

Specified Area for Smoking:

 Outside school grounds

 

Review:

The policy will be reviewed by the Board of Trustees by consultation in February of each year.

 

Complaints Procedure:

 

The following steps should be taken by anyone who wishes to make complaints against persons smoking in NON SMOKING areas:

 

(1)  Draw the smoker’s attention to the offence

(2)  Report the matter to the Health Co-ordinator ( Marie Anderson) in the School

(3)  If the Health Co-ordinator fails to act or if the Health Co-ordinator is unable to deter the offender(s), then the complaint may be submitted to the District Health Board.

 

The normal procedure for treating anyone who infringes the conditions of the St Patrick’s School Smoking in the Workplace policy will be to issue a verbal warning on the first occasion, followed by a written warning on a repeated offence.  If the offending continues, the complaint will be passed onto the Board of Trustees.

 

The offending person can be fined $400.00 and the school $4000.00.

 

Effectiveness Review

This policy will be reviewed annually according to the Board’s timetable of triennial review.

The review will be conducted in the form of a questionnaire offered to each employee as follows:

1)         Have you read the Boards smoking policy                                     Yes              No

2)         In your experience have the above objectives been met     Yes              No
