STAFF LEAVE  -  POLICY

 

PURPOSES:

 

1.   The Board of Trustees will recognise their obligations as an Equal Employment Opportunities employer.

 

2.   To follow relevant employment awards.

 

3.   To provide consistency in the granting of leave where it is discretionary.

 

4.   To recognise that in some cases the Ministry of Education must give the final approval.

 

GUIDELINES:

 

1.   The Board of Trustees will observe the Current Primary Teachers Collective Employment Contract and Support Staff Collective Contract Criteria.  Leave with pay will be considered by the Board in accordance with these regulations.

 

2.   The Board of Trustees has discretion in granting:

a) Special leave (Section 6.5 collective contract).

b) Special leave without pay  (Section 6.5 collective contract)

c) Section 4.9 Support Staff in Schools' Collective Contract)

 

3.   Before an employee has been granted discretionary leave with pay approval must be sought from the Ministry for the cost of a reliever.

 

4.   Application for leave will not be unreasonably withheld.  All decisions made will be fair, equitable, and consistent.

 

5.   The Principal has authority to approve leave without pay applications up to a duration of ten working days.  The Board of Trustees will consider applications for longer periods.

 

6.   The Principal will appoint required relievers.
