TREATY OF WAITANGI POLICY

 

 

PURPOSES:

1        To provide all students and teachers with opportunities to understand, respect and 

value Tikanga Maori (Maori values, attitudes and behaviour).

 

2          To develop an understanding of cultural differences between maori and other ethnic groups in Aotearoa among all pupils, parents and teachers.

 

3          To ensure Maori parents have priority in making decisions about Maori education

 

4          To present students with an honest and fair appraisal of the history of Aotearoa - New Zealand giving recognition to the positive Maori contribution to our nation.

 

 

GUIDELINES:

 

1          Opportunities should be used for liaison between the school, Kai Tahu people and the Maori Catholic Community.

 

2          Tikanga Maori is to be an important part of all areas of school life, so nurturing our tamariki.

 

3          That all available resources be utilised to give students and teachers opportunities for Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori.

 

4          Every year a budget will be allocated for resources.

 

5          That the school is sensitive to the cultural needs of our Maori tamariki.
