Beef Casserole Recipe
Ingredients
1kg blade steak ( or any casserole steak)
4 large onions ( sliced into thin half circles)
10 large button mushrooms ( sliced thin use the stalks )
Salt and pepper to taste
2 teaspoons oil
¼ cups of plain flour
1 litre of water
Method
Trim the steak and dice into 2cm cubes and brown in a pan with the hot oil.
When brown add the onions and brown then the mushrooms, salt and pepper. Cook
for a further 2 minutes or until all moisture has evaporated and just oil remains.
Slowly sprinkle the flour over the mix while stirring until it looks a bit thick
and gooey. Start adding the water and stir until it thickens. Transfer into
a casserole dish and cook for 2 hours at 180°C or for 4 hours on low in
a slow cooker. Once cooked it can be served with vegetable or you can add a
tin each of chickpeas and kidney beans ( both drained and rinsed with cold water)
and serve just with bread. This can also make a great filling for steak pies.
